“Just wanted to say KNS listens to our daughters interests and really enjoys her class. She loves all the positive reinforcement she gets. She is growing in confidence everyday.”Year 2 students parents
Kelburn Normal School has12 teams. Additionally we offer a differentiated programme for some students at Year 5-8 level that challenges students to think abstractly called Additional English, as well as the performing arts.
We put a great emphasis on ensuring every child knows they are amongst teachers and friends who genuinely care about them as individuals. This supportive, stimulating environment creates a foundation for children to discover themselves - gaining positive life skills.
Our students are consistently above average in academic achievement compared to students of similar schools in New Zealand. We are continuously identifying ways of further improving teaching programmes to meet the individual needs of students. Evidence shows that when our children go to secondary school they are well prepared to succeed.
Kelburn is well known for its excellent arts performances with choirs, kapa haka, an orchestra, multiple bands and ensembles and consistent and frequent drama performances. Lyrica, our auditioned choir is widely regarded across Wellington.
We value being an active school and every child takes part in physical education, sports and games to the level that suits them. All children at all levels can participate in netball, soccer, volleyball, water polo, cross country, swimming, touch rugby, hockey and rugby.
